Engineer Consultant

About the role

The client is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer Consultant to ensure project infrastructure is built according to approved scope, design specifications, and international best practice, and to verify compliance with IFC Performance Standards and EHS guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct desk‑based and field reviews of project documentation, feasibility studies, technical specifications and contract requirements.
• Perform site inspections to verify material compliance, structural integrity and installation requirements.
• Review O&M manuals, maintenance schedules, spare‑parts strategies and asset‑management plans.
• Assess engineering designs for land acquisition, resettlement, community health and safety, labor conditions, emissions, waste management and biodiversity impacts.
• Prepare and review IFC Performance Standards compliance checklists for ICT infrastructure.
• Identify environmental and social risks, propose corrective actions and, when needed, participate in key informant interviews and focus‑group discussions with affected communities and regulators.
• Collaborate with environmental, social, economic and field specialists to synthesize findings and contribute to technical reports and compliance matrices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental), Energy Economics, Infrastructure Planning or related field.
• 3–7 years of professional experience on infrastructure or ICT projects, with demonstrated application of IFC Performance Standards or World Bank E&S frameworks.
• Experience working in Kenya and familiarity with local environmental regulations, land acquisition, resettlement, labor conditions and community health and safety.
• Proven ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders.
