Head of Accountability & Transparency Unit (ATU)

About the role

The Head of the Accountability & Transparency Unit (ATU) will provide strategic leadership and independent oversight for MSF Eastern Africa’s accountability framework. Reporting to senior management, the role embeds a culture of transparency across governance, operations, and resource use, ensuring integrity and continuous learning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the institutionalisation of accountability and transparency policies across MSF Eastern Africa.
• Oversee and manage ATU investigations, personally handling high‑risk, complex, or sensitive cases involving fraud, corruption, financial misconduct, or serious protocol breaches.
• Ensure investigations follow the ATU Investigation Protocol, maintaining procedural fairness, confidentiality, and timely outcomes.
• Provide quality assurance and strategic oversight for all ATU activities, including reporting to senior leadership.
• Promote responsible use of resources and support continuous improvement through learning and feedback loops.

Required profile

• Proven experience in leading investigations of financial or ethical misconduct within an international or humanitarian context.
• Strong understanding of accountability, transparency, and governance frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a team and influence senior stakeholders.
• Commitment to safeguarding principles and to fostering an inclusive workplace.
