Head of Procurement

About the role

A key member of the senior management team, the Head of Procurement (HOP) leads the implementation of an integrated, efficient, systematic and strategic sourcing, procurement and contract lifecycle to support effective hospital operations and cost savings.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement policies and procedures that promote efficient vendor management from sourcing and pre‑qualification to contract negotiation and pricing.
• Influence medium to high‑level negotiations and build long‑term partnerships with major international suppliers to achieve sustainable savings.
• Participate in financial planning by providing insight on operational and capital equipment budgets, past expenditure analysis and pricing options.
• Design and enforce an internal process for raising, receiving and approving purchase requisitions in line with hospital policy and audit requirements.
• Provide leadership to purchasing staff, including learning and development plans, coaching and succession planning.
• Manage vendor relationships, conduct market research and collaborate with industry peers to monitor commodity prices and benchmark processes.
• Contribute to strategic hospital planning alongside senior leadership.
• Implement policies for stock and equipment level management, distribution and safe receipt, quality assessment and proper storage.
• Develop KAIZEN‑aligned systems to accurately record purchases, order details, stock movement, distribution, warehouse activities and supplier information.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
• Minimum seven (7) years of experience in sourcing, procurement & contracts, with at least three (3) years in a management role within a healthcare facility.
• Diploma or professional qualification in Supply Chain Management (e.g., CIPS).
