Investigator – Temporary Position

About the role

The Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) in Nairobi is seeking a temporary Investigator to join its Investigations Division. Reporting to the Chief of Section, the role involves conducting investigations into alleged misconduct, fraud, corruption and other violations of United Nations regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organize and execute investigations of alleged misconduct, fraud, waste of resources and violations of UN rules, including cases of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.
• Establish facts, determine findings and formulate recommendations for corrective and disciplinary actions.
• Draft investigative reports, communications and assist in reviewing reports prepared by others.
• Perform legal research and analysis of evidentiary material.
• Maintain and update guidance material based on best practices and legal developments.
• Review policy decisions, monitor implementation and analyse legal implications.
• Advise on operational implications of UN jurisprudence and General Assembly resolutions.
• Support intake services, hotline management, preliminary assessments and referral processes.
• Collect and analyse data to identify trends or patterns.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background in law, international relations, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations, legal research, and report writing.
• Ability to travel to remote locations for extended periods.
• Strong analytical skills and familiarity with United Nations regulations and administrative issuances.
• Excellent written communication skills for drafting reports and correspondence.
