IT Expert – Cloud & Data Solutions

About the role

The IT Expert will design, implement and maintain the technology backbone that supports our research operations. This includes building mobile data collection platforms, managing cloud infrastructure, and ensuring robust cybersecurity and data protection.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deploy mobile data collection solutions such as ODK, KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO and CommCare.
• Manage cloud infrastructure, including databases, dashboards, file storage and automation workflows.
• Build and maintain internal web tools, APIs and analytics dashboards.
• Enforce cybersecurity, data protection and backup policies across the organisation.
• Provide L2/L3 IT support to all departments.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field.
• At least 4 years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and database administration.
• Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript and SQL.
• Experience with BI/visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker or Metabase.
• Familiarity with statistical or data‑analysis tools (R, Stata, SPSS) is a plus.
• Knowledge of GDPR and Kenya Data Protection Act requirements.
