Java Backend Engineering Team Lead

About the role

Imara Impact, an initiative of Tiko, is looking for a Java Backend Engineering Team Lead to design and build the core platform that turns field data into verified impact for donors. You will lead a small engineering team, shape the technical roadmap, and ensure the reliability of the "trust infrastructure" that underpins outcome‑based financing.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain a Java‑based backend that processes real‑time data from health interventions.
• Lead a team of engineers, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship.
• Collaborate with product, data science, and finance teams to integrate AI‑driven verification and fintech components.
• Ensure high standards of security, scalability, and data integrity across a multi‑country platform.
• Drive continuous improvement of development processes and deployment pipelines.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading backend engineering teams, preferably in fintech or social‑impact tech.
• Strong understanding of outcome‑based financing concepts and data‑driven verification.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment.
