About the role

The Nyandarua National Polytechnic is seeking a dedicated Librarian to oversee its library operations in Westlands, Nairobi. The role involves implementing library policies, managing collections, and ensuring secure and efficient access to information for staff and students.

Key responsibilities

• Implement library policies and procedures in line with national guidelines.
• Maintain custody of publications, ensuring proper preservation and availability.
• Allocate tasks, supervise library staff, and monitor work plans.
• Ensure security of information materials and library equipment.
• Manage information storage and retrieval systems following best practices.
• Develop procedures for collection, organization, classification, and navigation of library resources.
• Participate in budgeting for the library.
• Oversee user registration, clearance, and fine collection.
• Coordinate maintenance of the library’s computerized security system.
• Update the library website with relevant information.
• Conduct performance appraisals and handle disciplinary matters.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science or a related field.
• Minimum three years of relevant library experience.
• Member of the Kenya Library Association.
• Certificate in computer applications.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated integrity and strong work performance.
• Required documents: certificate of good conduct, tax compliance certificate, HELB clearance, EACC clearance, and credit reference bureau clearance.
