Mid-Level to Senior Associate – Projects, Energy & Infrastructure

About the role

Bowmans is seeking a commercially sharp and technically strong mid‑level to senior associate to join its Projects, Energy & Infrastructure (PEI) practice, one of the most active teams in East and Southern Africa. You will lead day‑to‑day execution of high‑value transactions across power, renewables, oil & gas, transport, water and social infrastructure, working closely with partners and multidisciplinary deal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead associate on complex project development, project finance and PEI M&A transactions, drafting and negotiating agreements, finance documentation and security packages.
• Serve as primary contact for sponsors, lenders, governments and multilateral institutions, building trusted client relationships.
• Supervise junior associates, trainees and paralegals, providing feedback and fostering a collaborative environment.
• Coordinate with banking, construction, environmental, tax, competition and disputes teams to deliver integrated advice.
• Develop practice precedents, present at client seminars and contribute to sector publications.
• Manage matter budgets, timelines, risk compliance and support billing and collections.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a law degree (LL.B or equivalent) and relevant experience in project finance or infrastructure transactions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead workstreams and manage client relationships.
• Strong analytical and drafting skills with attention to detail.
