PLC Operator – Fixed-term (Sagana, Kenya)

About the role

One Acre Fund is seeking a PLC Operator for its Tupande pyrolysis plant in Sagana, Kenya. The role is fixed‑term (6 months) and involves operating and monitoring two production lines from the control room, ensuring stable, safe, and specification‑compliant processes.

Key responsibilities

• Execute start‑up, steady‑state, and shutdown sequences in the correct order, confirming each critical step.
• Monitor temperature, pressure, flow and trends, adjusting settings within approved bounds to keep the process optimal.
• Watch feed and product quality indicators and coordinate with the Quality team on any deviation.
• Provide coverage for operator breaks and respond to equipment stoppages or surge workloads across the shift.
• Maintain accurate, timestamped shift logs, perform first‑line equipment care, and give clear handovers to the next shift.

Required profile

• Technical certificate or diploma in process/chemical, instrumentation, electrical, mechatronics engineering or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years operating a continuous or thermal process from a PLC/SCADA/DCS control room.
• Awareness of combustible gas and carbon monoxide hazards and ability to work rotating 9‑hour shifts, including nights.
• Physically capable of working in a hot, dusty industrial environment.

• PLC/SCADA/DCS operation and process monitoring (temperature, pressure, flow).
• Equipment maintenance, cleaning and condition monitoring.
• Accurate data logging and basic computer literacy.
• Basic first‑aid and firefighting skills.
