Senior Data Scientist – Clean Cooking (PAYG LPG)

About the role

Sun King is expanding from solar products into clean cooking, delivering pay‑as‑you‑go LPG to families who cannot afford upfront costs. We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to own data products from discovery through delivery and feedback, working closely with sales, operations, customer success and the call centre.

Key responsibilities

• Translate concrete business problems into statistical questions and build end‑to‑end machine‑learning models that drive activation, refill frequency, retention or unit economics.
• Ship 2–3 data products into production within the first year, measuring impact on activation rate, refill frequency, churn, ARPU or cost‑to‑serve.
• Design, implement and monitor experiments (A/B, geo, quasi‑experiments) and quantify pricing elasticity, promotion uplift and media effectiveness.
• Partner with data‑engineering teams to hand off validated models, set up monitoring, and define retraining triggers.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of hands‑on data‑science or applied‑ML experience, with at least 2 years owning data products end‑to‑end.
• Proven track record of delivering data products that moved measurable business outcomes in an emerging‑market consumer context.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical findings to non‑technical commercial leaders and manage stakeholder expectations.

Required skills

• Python (scientific stack)
• SQL (complex queries, window functions)
• Machine‑learning algorithms: gradient boosting, regression, clustering, ranking, time‑series forecasting
• Probabilistic modelling and Bayesian inference (PyMC or Stan)
• Experiment design and statistical hypothesis testing (A/B, quasi‑experiments)
• Cloud data warehouses and AWS services (SageMaker, Lambda, ECS)
• MLflow or equivalent experiment‑tracking tools
