Agricultural Trials Lead (Fixed-Term)

About the role

This role leads early‑stage agricultural research (phase 1) in Kenya, managing a network of research stations across five agro‑ecological zones. You will ensure trials are scientifically rigorous, operationally efficient and generate credible evidence for technology scaling or commercialization.

Key responsibilities

• Execute the phase 1 Ag R&D strategy by planning and running trials across diverse zones, balancing portfolios of fertilizer alternatives, soil‑health innovations, biological inputs and IPM technologies.
• Provide technical leadership on trial design, implementation, data collection, analysis and reporting, establishing minimum quality standards.
• Develop and manage annual budgets, monitor costs per trial, and ensure timely procurement and distribution of inputs.
• Recruit, manage and develop a multidisciplinary trials team, fostering a culture of openness, accountability and scientific excellence.

Required profile

• MSc in applied agricultural sciences with 2‑3 years relevant experience.
• Strong technical knowledge of fertilizer alternatives, soil‑health products and integrated pest management technologies.
• Proven experience designing and managing multi‑location field trials and research stations.
• Experience managing research budgets, operational risks and working with donors, universities or regulatory agencies.
