Business Development Manager – Logistics

About the role

A client in the logistics sector, recruited through Summit Recruitment & Search, is looking for an experienced Business Development Manager in Nairobi. The role drives sustainable revenue growth by identifying and securing new business while strengthening existing client relationships, covering strategic market expansion, trade lane development, pipeline management and new revenue streams. It also involves compliance, risk mitigation and close work with operational teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute business development strategies, identify new markets, trends and trade lanes, and build a strong sales pipeline.
• Acquire new business and strengthen long-term relationships with existing clients.
• Lead client engagements, negotiations and onboarding to meet revenue targets.
• Build strategic partnerships with clients, service providers and the SGL Network.
• Maintain accurate CRM records and use sales, customer and market data to forecast revenue and monitor pipeline health.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and policies, and mitigate commercial, operational and financial risks.
• Support credit control and debt collection with the Finance team, and collaborate with Operations, Finance, Pricing and Customer Service.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in business development or sales within transport and logistics.
• Proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.
• Strong understanding of freight forwarding, customs clearance and logistics operations.

Required skills

• Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
• Analytical and project management capabilities.
• Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office tools.
