Customs Declaration Clerk – Freight Forwarding

About the role

We are seeking a diligent Declaration Clerk to manage customs declarations and related documentation for import and export shipments. The role involves working with ICMS and ASYCUDA systems to ensure accurate and timely processing of cross‑border cargo.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and process customs declarations accurately and efficiently.
• Capture and manage entries using ICMS and ASYCUDA systems.
• Coordinate import and export documentation for cross‑border shipments.
• Handle rail consignment documentation and cargo tracking for Uganda and other regional routes.
• Ensure compliance with customs regulations, clearing procedures, and transit requirements.
• Liaise with customs authorities, transporters, shipping lines, and clients.
• Monitor shipment status and resolve clearance or transit issues promptly.
• Verify invoices, permits, bills of lading, manifests, and supporting documents.
• Maintain accurate records and filing of customs and transport documentation.

Required profile

• 2‑4 years of experience with freight forwarding or logistics companies.
• Proven experience as a Declaration Clerk or in a similar clearing and forwarding role.
• Strong working knowledge of ICMS and ASYCUDA systems.
• Experience handling rail movements to Uganda and regional transit cargo.
• Good understanding of customs procedures, transit regulations, and border operations.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
• Certificate or diploma in Clearing & Forwarding, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred).
