East Africa Photographer – Nairobi

About the role

Reuters Pictures is seeking a skilled photographer to join its East Africa team in Nairobi. The role is part of a One Newsroom approach, collaborating closely with text, picture and video teams to deliver fast, accurate and impactful journalism for a global audience.

Key responsibilities

• Capture high‑quality news, business and sports photographs across Kenya and the wider East Africa region.
• Work closely with editorial and video colleagues to support visual and editorial coverage.
• Identify and develop original visual story ideas that differentiate Reuters’ coverage.
• Cover major events, including protests, elections, humanitarian crises and conflict situations.
• Maintain strong sourcing networks and spot news opportunities in fast‑moving environments.

Required profile

• Proven track record of covering major stories and producing compelling visual journalism.
• Deep understanding of the political, economic and social landscape of Kenya and East Africa.
• Well‑connected with strong sourcing skills and the ability to identify distinctive photographic opportunities.
• Comfortable working independently in difficult and fast‑moving situations, including hostile environments.
• Ability to work confidently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
