Editor and Writer – Freshwater Communications

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking an experienced Editor and Writer to strengthen the quality, visibility and dissemination of its freshwater‑related communication, policy and knowledge products. This consultancy will support global policy and stakeholder engagement processes through high‑impact written materials.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, edit, proofread and publish technical reports, guidance documents, strategic papers, consultation summaries and other knowledge products related to freshwater ecosystems.
• Develop and disseminate outreach materials for international freshwater, climate and environmental governance initiatives, including UNEA follow‑up, UN‑Water engagement, the Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate Action and the 2026 UN Water Conference.
• Prepare communication assets for high‑level meetings, COPs, webinars, regional consultations and global water fora – including presentations, speeches, talking points, briefing notes, web stories and event reports.
• Support coordination and visibility of communication activities across UNEP, Member States, partners and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience in editing and writing technical or policy documents, preferably in the environmental sector.
• Familiarity with UN processes and international water‑related initiatives.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clear, concise and audience‑appropriate content.
