Estimator

About the role

The Estimator prepares accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction, installation, service and maintenance projects. The role covers labour, equipment, material and subcontractor costs, working closely with Sales, Project Management, Operations, Vendors and Customers. The position is eligible for remote work.

Key responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, bid documents and project requirements to prepare detailed cost estimates.
• Analyse labour, equipment, material, subcontractor and overhead costs, and develop project budgets and pricing proposals.
• Perform quantity take-offs and scope reviews, and identify risks and opportunities.
• Evaluate alternative materials, methods and equipment to maximise profitability, and maintain cost databases and estimating tools.
• Prepare bid packages and customer proposals, solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations, and coordinate supplier pricing and lead times.
• Support project managers after award, help communicate estimate assumptions, and assist material procurement and scheduling.
• Maintain vendor and customer relationships, respond to customer pricing and scope requests, and collaborate with Sales and Operations on business development.
• Track estimate performance against actual costs, assist with estimating standards, and generate reports for management.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3+ years of estimating, construction, project coordination or related experience.
• Preferred: experience in petroleum, commercial, electrical, environmental or industrial construction.
• Preferred: prior experience with ERP systems such as FSM, SAP or similar.
• Able to sit for long periods, occasionally visit project sites and travel as needed.
