Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway

About the role

Moniepoint Inc. is expanding its payment platform, Monnify, into Kenya. We are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead the Payment Gateway division, shaping the technical strategy and architecture that powers millions of transactions across Africa and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the full technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify platform.
• Lead multiple engineering teams through their managers, establishing quality standards and building organisational capability.
• Own the end‑to‑end developer experience, including APIs, documentation, SDKs and integration ease.
• Drive platform evolution toward multi‑currency support and international scalability.
• Ensure platform reliability, scalability and security within a regulated environment.
• Collaborate with product, commercial and operations teams to align technical investments with business goals.
• Recruit, mentor and develop engineering managers and senior engineers to support rapid growth.

Required profile

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in senior technical leadership.
• Proven track record of building and scaling high‑throughput, secure payment systems.
• Experience working in regulated financial environments.
• Strong ability to partner with cross‑functional product and business teams.
