Head of Medical Services

About the role

Brites Management Services is recruiting a Head of Medical Services for a hospital in Embu. This is a full-time position with competitive pay, responsible for leading all clinical departments and ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate Outpatient, Inpatient, Maternity, Theatre and Laboratory services, and guide clinical strategies aligned with hospital objectives.
• Develop and review clinical policies, SOPs and clinical governance frameworks, monitor outcomes and lead infection prevention and control and accreditation compliance.
• Supervise Medical Officers, Specialists, Clinical Officers and nursing teams, run performance appraisals, coordinate CME and support recruitment.
• Improve patient satisfaction, handle complaints and escalations, and strengthen communication with patients and families.
• Take part in clinical budget management, monitor supplies, drugs and equipment use and support procurement.
• Ensure staff are licensed and compliant with KMPDC standards and national healthcare laws, identify clinical risks and lead crisis management when needed.
• Report on clinical performance and quality indicators and attend senior management and board meetings.

Required profile

• MBChB from a recognised institution; MMed, Public Health, Health Systems Management or MBA is an added advantage.
• At least 5-7 years of clinical experience, including 3 years in a senior management or supervisory role at a busy Level 4 or higher facility.
• Registered and licensed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) with a valid practicing certificate.
