Head of Product
Living Goods · Nairobi
Job description
About the role
Living Goods, a government performance partner helping countries build affordable, intelligent community health systems, is hiring a Head of Product in Nairobi. The role owns the product strategy and roadmap for all of Living Goods' digital work, reporting to the Chief Technology and Product Officer and building product management as a discipline from the ground up. It is hands-on, working with community health workers and supervisors in the field and deciding on evidence whether to continue, adapt or stop projects.
Key responsibilities
- Own the product strategy and a single roadmap across active software build lines, with AI features sequenced on it, and define objectives and key results for the product function and each product.
- Lead discovery with community health workers, supervisors, programme staff and government partners, and bring honest evidence to decisions, including recommendations to stop.
- Lead the transformation to an AI-native engineering organisation, setting the strategy and roadmap and working hands-on with engineers on agentic workflows, skills and memory.
- Reshape roles such as QA and product design into shared, scalable capabilities, and ship against programme commitments with a lean, high-leverage team.
- Define what good product management looks like, establish the function's operating rhythm, accelerate hypothesis-based experimentation and make it safe to stop things on evidence.
- Line manage and coach the product team, build a structured development path, support colleagues moving into product, recruit consistently and build succession.
- Provide accurate technical content for donor proposals and reports.
Required profile
- 10 or more years in product management, including 3 or more years leading, coaching and developing product managers.
- Experience establishing product management where it did not previously exist.
- AI features shipped into production, covering evaluation, quality control and human oversight.
- Judgement in choosing between models and providers on capability, latency, offline behaviour, data residency, cost and exit options.
- Ownership of several products at different lifecycle stages, with evidence of stopping or changing direction on the basis of data.
- Strong discovery practice with users in low-connectivity, low-literacy or resource-constrained settings.
- Excellent written communication.
Desirable
- Digital health, community health systems or international development experience.
- Building for or handing over to government systems.
- Open-source health platforms such as CHT, OpenSRP or CommCare.
Applications are considered on a rolling basis until the position is closed. Compensation includes a competitive salary and benefits package, health insurance and a bonus opportunity.
