HSSE Manager - Eastern & Southern Africa

About the role

JLL is hiring an HSSE Manager for its Eastern and Southern Africa portfolio, based in Nairobi, Kenya. The role covers the region's client accounts and site operations, with regular travel across both sub-regions. It balances technical HSE expertise with client relationship management to drive safety performance across facility management operations in several countries.

Key responsibilities

• Implement JLL's HSE strategies for client accounts across Eastern and Southern Africa, adapted to local market conditions
• Maintain compliance with regulations, ISO 45001 standards and client requirements across multiple jurisdictions
• Monitor and report HSE performance metrics and KPIs to stakeholders, and lead incident investigations with root cause analysis
• Report accidents, incidents and near misses through the client and JLL reporting system
• Keep legal registers up to date, track legislative changes and support third-party certifications
• Foster safety culture through training and engagement, and build relationships with client teams, vendors and internal stakeholders
• Deliver regular reporting, take part in governance meetings and represent the portfolio at regional and global forums

Required profile

• 3-5 years of HSSE management experience, ideally across multiple African markets
• Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Recognized HSSE qualifications such as NEBOSH; auditor qualifications preferred
• Practical experience in Kenya and an extended Eastern and Southern Africa portfolio preferred
• Willingness to travel extensively and to work with minimal supervision across a dispersed portfolio

Required skills

• Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and familiarity with regional regulatory variations
• Hazard identification, risk management, health and safety inspection and incident investigation
• Incident investigation and root cause analysis expertise
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
• Strong communication, stakeholder influence and problem-solving skills
