Maintenance Worker – Streets Division

About the role

The City of Geneva is hiring a Maintenance Worker for its Streets Division. You will perform a variety of labor‑focused tasks that keep roadways, parkways and public spaces safe, functional and attractive. The position follows a regular Monday‑Friday schedule with evenings and weekends off, but you will also join a crew that responds to after‑hours emergencies and leads snow‑removal efforts.

Key responsibilities

• Repair and maintain road surfaces, including pothole patching, asphalt smoothing and rolling.
• Restore parkways by handling hardscape, landscape, debris removal, mowing, weed whipping, planting, pruning, seeding and fertilizing.
• Perform snow and ice removal on streets and sidewalks during winter months.
• Plant, prune and remove trees in city parkways, following arborist guidelines.
• Set up, break down and clean up City festivals, including placement of trash containers, barricades and banners.
• Install and repair street signs, pavement markings and striping.
• Assemble and maintain streetscape furniture such as benches and trash receptacles.
• Act as a flagger for crew members working in traffic and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience using basic maintenance tools and operating heavy equipment.
• Valid Illinois Class A Commercial Driver’s License with required classifications and tanker endorsements (to be obtained within six months of hire).
• Ability to obtain forklift, flagger and CPR certifications (training provided if not already held).
• Ability to meet moderate to heavy physical demands and work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
