Medical Director (Head of Medical Services)

About the role

Brites Management Services is recruiting a Medical Director (Head of Medical Services) for a hospital in Embu. The post provides overall clinical leadership and coordination of all clinical departments, including Outpatient, Inpatient, Maternity, Theatre and Laboratory services, and ensures high-quality, integrated healthcare delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead clinical departments and guide clinical strategies aligned with hospital objectives
• Develop and review clinical policies, protocols and SOPs, and set up clinical governance frameworks for patient safety
• Monitor clinical outcomes, lead infection prevention and control and quality improvement programmes
• Supervise Medical Officers, Specialists, Clinical Officers and nursing teams, conduct appraisals and coordinate CME
• Improve patient satisfaction, handle complaints and escalate issues professionally
• Take part in clinical budget management, supply and equipment use, and inventory monitoring
• Ensure staff are licensed and compliant with KMPDC standards and national healthcare laws
• Report on clinical performance and quality indicators, attend board meetings and lead crisis management when needed

Required profile

• MBChB from a recognised institution; MMed, Public Health, Health Systems Management or MBA is an added advantage
• At least 5-7 years of clinical experience, including 3 years in a senior management or supervisory role at a busy Level 4 or higher facility
• Registered and licensed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) with a valid practicing certificate
