Medical Officer

About the role

The Medical Officer is responsible for day‑to‑day management of outpatients, supervising junior medical staff, and ensuring high‑quality clinical care within a hospital setting. The role involves direct patient care, coordination with primary surgeons, and participation in quality management activities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the scope of practice.
• Review pathology, radiology and other diagnostic reports and communicate findings to the primary surgeon.
• Accurately document patient history, examinations, management plans, investigations and actions taken.
• Coordinate patient flow and care across departments, reviewing both outpatients and inpatients with residents or surgeons.
• Order necessary radiology and pathology tests, prescribe medication and arrange referrals as required.
• Provide on‑the‑job teaching to junior medical staff and supervise clinical support services such as pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, biomed, and nutrition.
• Communicate patient conditions and treatment plans to patients and families.
• Participate in departmental quality management activities in line with hospital standards.

Required profile

• MBCHB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) or equivalent.
• Registered with the Medical Council of Kenya as a Medical Officer.
• Leadership or management training is an advantage.
• High integrity, strong professionalism, and good work ethics.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
