About the role
The Medical Officer is responsible for day‑to‑day management of outpatients, supervising junior medical staff, and ensuring high‑quality clinical care within a hospital setting. The role involves direct patient care, coordination with primary surgeons, and participation in quality management activities.
Key responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the scope of practice.
- Review pathology, radiology and other diagnostic reports and communicate findings to the primary surgeon.
- Accurately document patient history, examinations, management plans, investigations and actions taken.
- Coordinate patient flow and care across departments, reviewing both outpatients and inpatients with residents or surgeons.
- Order necessary radiology and pathology tests, prescribe medication and arrange referrals as required.
- Provide on‑the‑job teaching to junior medical staff and supervise clinical support services such as pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, biomed, and nutrition.
- Communicate patient conditions and treatment plans to patients and families.
- Participate in departmental quality management activities in line with hospital standards.
Required profile
- MBCHB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) or equivalent.
- Registered with the Medical Council of Kenya as a Medical Officer.
- Leadership or management training is an advantage.
- High integrity, strong professionalism, and good work ethics.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
