Power Engineer

About the role

Tatu City is seeking an experienced Power Engineer to lead the design, construction, testing, commissioning and maintenance of its power system projects. The role covers low, medium and high voltage networks as well as renewable energy installations such as solar PV and storage.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare engineering studies, specifications, designs, drawings and bills of quantities for power system projects.
• Supervise construction, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of low, medium and high voltage power networks and associated equipment.
• Operate and maintain overhead, underground, indoor and outdoor electrical distribution and transmission infrastructure.
• Design, implement and manage renewable energy systems, including solar photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage solutions.
• Prepare technical tender documents, evaluate bids and support procurement activities.
• Monitor power system performance, reliability and safety, and implement improvement measures.
• Ensure compliance with electrical standards, regulatory requirements and HSE policies.
• Manage projects, contractors and technical teams to deliver works on time and within budget.

Required profile

• Minimum eight (8) years of hands‑on experience in design, construction, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of power utility infrastructure.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Registered Professional Engineer or Graduate Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya and member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya.
• Licensed Electrical Worker (Class B or higher) – preferred.
• Licensed Solar PV Technician (Class T3) – an advantage.
• Proven experience in solar PV and other renewable energy systems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage engineering projects.
