Regional Medical Officer

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Regional Medical Officer to lead occupational health services across its regional and country offices. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and the Director of Staff Health and Welfare, the incumbent will ensure the health and well‑being of staff and eligible dependents in line with UN medical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee clinical duties and provide medical support to staff and dependents.
• Manage health insurance programs, claims processing and liaise with insurers.
• Implement occupational health and safety measures, including risk assessments.
• Provide medico‑administrative advice to HR, regional directors and external providers.
• Conduct and validate medical examinations such as Entry on Duty, Periodic Medical Examinations and driver fitness assessments.
• Perform independent medical examinations for fitness‑for‑duty and deployment to hardship locations.
• Supervise training of medical staff and ensure quality standards are met.
• Prepare reports, documentation and statistical analyses for senior management.
• Engage with UN medical services, inter‑agency health networks and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to policy development, emergency preparedness and regional health planning.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD) or equivalent.
• Experience in occupational health or staff health services.
• Familiarity with UN medical standards and inter‑agency health coordination mechanisms.
• Ability to work with regional offices, HR teams and external health providers.
