School Counsellor

About the role

The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa seeks a dedicated School Counsellor to design and deliver a culturally‑responsive counselling programme that supports the social‑emotional development of its diverse student body and residential learners.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive, results‑based counselling programme aligned with ISCA Student Standards and the IB philosophy.
• Integrate social‑emotional learning and well‑being into the curriculum and school culture.
• Provide individual and group counselling to address students’ social, emotional and behavioural needs.
• Offer dedicated pastoral care to residential students, supporting adjustment, homesickness, cultural transition and interpersonal relationships.
• Collaborate with residential life staff, heads of houses and families to maintain a safe boarding environment.
• Facilitate workshops and group activities that promote community, well‑being and life skills for boarders.
• Monitor mental health, coordinate referrals to external professionals when needed, and advocate for student equity and access.
• Participate in school‑wide initiatives, uphold ISCA ethical standards and engage in ongoing professional development.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Counselling or School Counselling from an accredited institution.
• Valid teaching certificate and certification as a counsellor.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in school counselling or a related field.
• Strong commitment to student well‑being, confidentiality and ethical practice.
