Accountant – Nairobi, Kenya

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Accountant to join a well‑established East African company in Nairobi. The role involves managing the general ledger, tax processing, inventory costing, and the full accounts receivable/payable cycle within a fast‑moving trading environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the chart of accounts and execute month‑end closing, including accruals and pre‑payments.
• Prepare monthly VAT, PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, and Housing Levy returns for review.
• Reconcile physical stock with the ERP system and calculate landed costs for imported goods.
• Oversee invoicing, chase overdue customer balances, and verify supplier invoices against delivery notes and purchase orders.
• Perform daily/weekly bank reconciliations, including M‑Pay and multi‑currency accounts.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register and apply correct depreciation rates per KRA schedules.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in a busy trading or distribution environment.
• CPA‑K certification or membership of ICPAK.
• Good conduct certificate and knowledge of import processes.

Required skills

• Advanced MS Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP).
• Hands‑on experience with ERP systems such as SAP B1, QuickBooks or Sage.
