Cashier, Main Pharmacy

About the role

The Main Pharmacy Cashier is responsible for handling all cash transactions, invoicing and receipt issuance for both internal and external customers. This role ensures accurate revenue accounting while providing courteous service in a fast‑paced pharmacy environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collect payments, issue receipts and invoices, and verify each against a valid prescription.
• Confirm patient identity using photo ID and attach required prescription copies to invoices.
• Maintain cash, cheques and vouchers securely; provide change for transactions.
• Bank daily collections promptly and process smart cards according to policy.
• Verify corporate/insurance prescription exemptions before transactions.
• File and store prescriptions and finance documents sequentially and securely.
• Activate corporate patient accounts and ensure signed claim forms are present.
• Manage stationery efficiently and log manual transactions when the computer system is down.
• Address customer queries, record verbal complaints, and perform any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• KATC II or Diploma in Business Administration (or equivalent) – desirable.
• KCSE grade of C+.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a busy cash office.
• Ability to work under pressure and as a team player.
• Strong organizational, communication and analytical skills.
• High level of integrity, attention to detail and excellent customer‑service orientation.
