About the role
The overall purpose of this role is to provide expert cardiac care to in‑patient and out‑patient cardiac patients, including diagnostic and interventional procedures, in line with established clinical protocols and the hospital’s patient care objectives. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to manage complex cardiology cases and drive continuous improvement in cardiac care.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, treat and stabilize cardiac patients and perform specialized interventional procedures following established protocols.
- Perform and interpret cardiac investigations such as ECGs, echocardiograms, stress tests and cardiac catheterization studies.
- Conduct coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and other catheter‑based procedures.
- Manage acute and complex cardiovascular conditions including acute coronary syndromes, myocardial infarction, arrhythmias and heart failure.
- Provide comprehensive post‑procedural care, monitor recovery, manage complications and educate patients.
- Collaborate with cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, nurses and other multidisciplinary team members for coordinated patient care.
- Refer patients for surgical or specialist intervention when indicated and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management initiatives.
Required profile
- Postgraduate Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology.
- Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine.
- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree.
- Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council and a valid practicing licence.
- At least five years of post‑graduate cardiology experience.
- Minimum three years of practice in Interventional Cardiology.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
