Child Welfare Assistant

About the role

The Child Welfare Assistant works under the supervision of the Child Welfare Coordinator to implement child welfare interventions in Mandera County. The role supports programme design, planning, monitoring and evaluation while ensuring compliance with Islamic Relief’s policies and international child protection standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support planning, coordination and implementation of project activities according to the approved implementation plan.
• Facilitate timely processing and disbursement of quarterly sponsorship payments, regular support payments and donor gifts.
• Conduct regular home visits to verify delivery of sponsorship benefits and assess child well‑being.
• Maintain accurate orphan profiles and biodata in the Alyateem system and assist with data collection, verification and reporting.
• Prepare and submit quarterly and annual progress reports, success stories and case studies.
• Support seasonal assistance programmes such as Ramadan food distributions and assist with opening bank accounts for newly enrolled orphans.

Required profile

• Degree in project management, community development, psychology, development studies, social work or related field.
• At least two years of relevant experience in child protection, project management, safeguarding or humanitarian response.
• Fluent in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of local language preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines and handle multi‑cultural environments.
