Chinese Translator – Construction Industry

About the role

We are looking for a proficient Chinese‑English translator to support our construction projects in Nairobi. The role involves interpreting and translating technical documents, facilitating communication between Chinese partners and local teams, and ensuring accurate conveyance of construction terminology.

Key responsibilities

• Provide real‑time verbal interpretation between Mandarin Chinese and English during meetings, site inspections and daily operations.
• Translate construction‑related documents such as contracts, drawings, technical specifications, reports, safety procedures and correspondence.
• Assist project managers and engineers in communicating with local staff, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Support negotiations, project coordination meetings and training sessions through accurate interpretation.
• Ensure translations reflect correct technical and construction terminology.
• Coordinate communication between Chinese and local teams to enable smooth project execution.
• Perform administrative tasks related to project documentation when required.

Required profile

• Degree in Languages, Translation or a related field.
• Mandarin proficiency at HSK 3 level or higher.
• Fluent spoken and written Chinese and English with clear pronunciation.
• 1‑3 years of translation/interpretation experience, preferably in a manufacturing or construction environment.
• Strong cross‑cultural communication and adaptability.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced construction setting and meet tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Mandarin Chinese (HSK 3+).
• English (fluent).
• Interpretation and translation of technical construction terminology.
