Communications Officer

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Communications Officer to support the TeachWell Project in Kenya. Reporting to the Project Director, the officer will drive internal and external communications, increase visibility, and ensure consistent messaging across all consortium partners.

Key responsibilities

• Review and update the TeachWell Communications Plan for internal and external audiences.
• Develop clear, compelling messages with consortium partners and ensure alignment with project goals.
• Create and package diverse content—including reports, stories, videos, and social media posts—for the TeachWell website and other channels.
• Coordinate video documentation with partners, manage production timelines, and ensure outputs meet donor requirements.
• Support advocacy by tracking education calendar events in Kenya and preparing representation and messaging for meetings.
• Collaborate with outcome leads (WASH, MHPSS, Education, Crisis Modifier) to identify communication needs and share approved media with regional teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, development studies, public relations, or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience in media, journalism, advocacy, or communications within an NGO or humanitarian context.
• Proven ability to manage communication strategies in complex, dynamic environments.
• Strong writing and editing skills with experience producing content for varied audiences.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and a track record of successful stakeholder engagement.
• Commitment to IRC’s mission and understanding of humanitarian challenges in Kenya.
• Excellent planning and organizational abilities, capable of meeting tight deadlines.
• Creative mindset adaptable to evolving communication trends and technologies.
