About the role
The Director of the Independent Evaluation Office leads UNFPA’s evaluation function from its Nairobi headquarters, ensuring independence, credibility and utility of all evaluations in line with the UN Evaluation Group standards.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the multi‑year, costed evaluation plan in consultation with the Executive Board and UNFPA management.
- Lead corporate thematic and country‑programme evaluations according to the approved plan.
- Provide methodological guidance, technical assistance and capacity development for both centralized and decentralized evaluation activities.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing, learning and the dissemination of evaluation results across UNFPA and external partners.
- Advise the Executive Director and senior management on evaluation matters and ensure the use of evaluation findings in strategic planning.
- Represent UNFPA in UNEG and other international evaluation fora, building partnerships and promoting innovation.

- Demonstrated senior leadership and strategic vision for an independent evaluation function.
- Commitment to safeguarding institutional independence, impartiality and credibility of evaluations.
