About the role

The British Army Training Unit Kenya is seeking a qualified Electrician to perform domestic and industrial electrical installation, maintenance and inspection on its facilities. You will work on‑site, ensuring all work complies with the latest BS7671 and IET Wiring Regulations and MOD safety rules.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out minor domestic and industrial electrical installations in line with BS7671.
  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance and servicing of white goods and electrical installations.
  • Review maintenance records and ensure ongoing compliance of electrical infrastructure.
  • Diagnose faults, carry out simple repairs on low‑voltage (LV) systems and make unsafe equipment safe.
  • Operate and maintain test equipment, conduct functional testing of components and assemblies.
  • Produce simple installation drawings, specifications and material quantity lists.
  • Respond to 24‑hour emergencies, including weekends and holidays, and direct or perform repairs as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and ensure proper use of PPE.

Required profile

  • Minimum of a recognised electrical trade qualification.
  • At least one month of relevant experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical data, drawings and safety documentation.
  • Willingness to complete bi‑annual First Aid and annual Fire Training courses.
  • Commitment to MOD Safety Rules, Health & Safety risk assessments and BATUK values.

Required skills

  • Knowledge of BS7671 and IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Experience with low‑voltage electrical installations and fault diagnosis.
  • Proficiency in using electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to produce basic installation drawings and material lists.
