Elevator Mechanic

About the role

The Elevator Mechanic will ensure safe, reliable operation of embassy elevators through routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, the role supports continuous certification and licensing compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and adhere to all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance standards.
• Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, signal and control systems using test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters and other diagnostic tools.
• Disassemble defective units, replace or repair locks, gears, cables and safety devices, and lubricate bearings.
• Install or service transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units and conduit systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance according to published schedules and provide input for task upgrades.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and wiring diagrams to locate equipment issues.
• Conduct equipment testing with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges and frequency counters.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship or Journeyman’s Certificate strongly preferred.
• Experience reading sketches, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and manufacturers’ manuals.
• Familiarity with US Electrical Codes and standard trade practices.
• Knowledge of annual maintenance and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.
