Employee Relations and Safeguarding Lead

About the role

GAIN is looking for an Employee Relations and Safeguarding Lead to join its HR team on a two‑year fixed‑term basis. The role will be based in either Nairobi, Kenya or Abuja, Nigeria and will drive the development and delivery of employee relations and safeguarding strategies across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation and monitoring of employee relations strategies aligned with organisational values.
• Develop and embed a strategic approach to managing employee relations cases.
• Partner with Learning and Development to raise people‑management and leadership capability.
• Design and deliver training on employee relations, safeguarding, workplace harassment, diversity and inclusion.
• Oversee safeguarding policies, procedures and reporting mechanisms to ensure effective response to concerns.
• Build a safeguarding community of practice and support stakeholders in policy implementation.
• Review, update and enforce HR and safeguarding policies to meet legal requirements.
• Stay current on labour laws and safeguarding regulations in all GAIN operating countries.

• Strong strategic leadership with the ability to influence and inspire teams at all levels.
• Demonstrated systems thinking, sound judgement and creativity.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a track record of driving operational excellence and cultural change.
