Engineering Manager – Linux Hardware Enablement

About the role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a distributed team that bridges Linux software with next‑generation hardware. Based in Kenya, you will work closely with silicon partners to optimise Ubuntu across the full Linux stack, from kernel integration to the desktop experience.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a remote team of engineers delivering Ubuntu integrations for IoT, PC and server‑class platforms.
• Provide technical direction across the Linux stack, driving hardware enablement, new features and performance improvements.
• Build and maintain relationships with commercial and technology partners, aligning technical and business priorities.
• Oversee partner engagements, ensuring milestones are met with high quality and reliability.
• Coach, mentor and develop engineers through feedback, guidance and career planning.
• Collaborate with internal product and engineering groups to align architecture, roadmaps and execution.
• Promote a collaborative, high‑performing engineering culture and continuous improvement of development practices.
• Travel internationally for team and company events up to twice a year.

Required profile

• Professional experience with Linux distributions, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
• Background in high‑performance server, PC or IoT hardware platforms.
• Proven experience managing or technically leading software engineering teams.
• Strong software engineering foundation with ability to lead complex system projects.
• Experience working directly with customers or external partners to solve technical challenges.
• Familiarity with agile software development methodologies.
