General Nurse – Med/Surg

About the role

Avenue Healthcare is seeking a General Nurse to work on a medical‑surgical unit in Westlands. The role involves delivering patient‑centred care, coordinating with the clinical team, and ensuring compliance with safety and governance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Navigate adult patients through their treatment journey and administer care according to the prescribed plan.
• Monitor, assess, and chart patients' physical and psycho‑social status, adjusting treatment as needed.
• Administer drugs safely, manage medication records, and participate in ward rounds.
• Supervise patient attendants and enforce infection‑control bundles (SSI, VAP, CAUTI, CLABSI).
• Maintain accurate patient data, report sentinel events within 24 hours, and ensure compliance with the 6 International Patient Safety Goals.
• Organise and stock emergency trolleys, report damaged equipment, and keep checklists up to date.
• Support financial viability of the unit by managing costs, pre‑authorisations, and documentation.
• Uphold corporate governance policies, report fraud or criminal activity, and implement audit recommendations.

Required profile

• BScN or Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN); higher diploma is an advantage.
• Valid Nursing License from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a busy clinical environment.
• Strong customer focus, teamwork, and communication skills.
