Head of Medical Services

About the role

The Head of Medical Services will provide strategic leadership across all clinical departments, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centred care. Reporting to senior hospital management, this role oversees outpatient, inpatient, maternity, theatre and laboratory services while driving evidence‑based practice and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate all clinical departments, including Outpatient, Inpatient, Maternity, Theatre and Laboratory services.
• Develop, implement and review clinical policies, SOPs and governance frameworks to ensure patient safety and service quality.
• Monitor clinical outcomes, drive quality‑improvement initiatives and ensure accreditation compliance.
• Supervise medical officers, specialists, clinical officers and nursing teams; conduct performance appraisals and support professional development.
• Identify training needs, coordinate Continuous Medical Education (CMEs) and promote teamwork and ethical practice.
• Manage patient care standards, address complaints and enhance patient satisfaction.
• Participate in budgeting, resource allocation and procurement planning for medical supplies and equipment.
• Ensure all clinical staff hold valid licenses and comply with national healthcare regulations.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of senior clinical management experience in a hospital setting.
• Proven ability to develop and enforce clinical policies, SOPs and governance frameworks.
• Strong track record in quality improvement, accreditation and patient safety initiatives.
• Experience supervising medical officers, specialists and nursing teams.
• Relevant medical degree and valid professional licensing.
