About the role
The Head of People & Culture will lead the human capital agenda for Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya, ensuring that people practices enable schools, leaders and staff to thrive in pursuit of educational excellence. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving on the Senior Leadership Team, the role shapes a high‑performing, values‑driven organisation across Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and execute an HR strategy aligned with organisational priorities.
- Advise the CEO and senior leadership on workforce planning, organisational design and leadership capability.
- Oversee compensation, benefits and reward frameworks to ensure equity and competitiveness.
- Lead collective bargaining and institutional labour relations.
- Foster an HR business‑partnering culture and coach school leaders on people and organisational effectiveness.
- Collaborate with regional and global AKES HR partners to share best practices.
- Manage HR operations across the network, including oversight of the HR team in Mombasa.
- Ensure end‑to‑end HR service delivery, system optimisation and analytics.
- Oversee employment‑related legal matters and ensure compliance with Kenyan labour laws.
- Provide workforce reporting to senior leadership and serve as Secretary to the HR Committee.
Required profile
- Extensive senior HR leadership experience, preferably in education or non‑profit settings.
- Proven ability to design and implement strategic HR initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of compensation, benefits, labour relations and employment law in Kenya.
- Experience coaching senior leaders and driving organisational effectiveness.
- Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively across multiple schools and regions.
