IT Expert – Cloud & Data Solutions

About the role

We are looking for an IT Expert to architect, build and maintain the technology backbone that powers our research operations. You will design digital data‑collection platforms, manage cloud infrastructure and ensure robust cybersecurity and data‑protection practices.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deploy mobile data‑collection solutions such as ODK, KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO and CommCare.
• Manage cloud resources (databases, dashboards, file storage, automations) on AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Develop and maintain internal web tools, APIs and analytics dashboards.
• Enforce cybersecurity, data‑protection and backup policies.
• Provide L2/L3 IT support across the organisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field.
• 4+ years of professional experience, including cloud and database administration.
• Knowledge of GDPR and the Kenya Data Protection Act.

Required skills

• Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, Azure.
• Database administration.
• Mobile data‑collection tools: ODK, KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO, CommCare.
• BI/visualisation tools: Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Metabase.
• Statistical/data analysis tools (optional): R, Stata, SPSS.
• Cybersecurity, data‑protection and backup procedures.
• L2/L3 IT support.
