Junior Automation Field Service Engineer

About the role

The Junior Automation Field Service Engineer will support the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of automation and control systems in bottling and manufacturing plants across Africa. Based in Nairobi, the role offers hands‑on experience with PLC programming, HMI/SCADA, industrial communication networks and robotics while working alongside senior engineers and cross‑functional teams. Travel to client sites in multiple countries is required.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of automation and control systems in bottling and manufacturing plants.
• Conduct basic troubleshooting on PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems and industrial communication networks.
• Support senior engineers with system diagnostics, logic modifications and software upgrades.
• Assist in robotic system integration and programming for manufacturing processes.
• Perform testing and calibration of automation components, ensuring compliance with ISO, OSHA and IEC safety standards.
• Work across multiple projects and countries following Synkron International’s engineering standards.
• Provide on‑site and remote technical support to clients for system optimisation.
• Assist in training plant operators and maintenance personnel on automation best practices.
• Respond to client inquiries regarding system performance, diagnostics and recommended upgrades.
• Document and communicate client feedback to internal teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or a related field.
• Practical, adaptable engineering mindset with willingness to travel across countries.
• Strong client communication skills and commitment to safety and quality standards.
