Knowledge Management & Learning Consultant

About the role

The International Rescue Committee seeks a Knowledge Management & Learning (KML) Consultant to strengthen IRC Kenya staff’s ability to embed evidence‑informed learning and impact documentation into everyday programming. The consultant will create high‑quality KML products that capture success stories, technical insights, and policy recommendations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and facilitate three integrated write‑shops in Nairobi, Turkana and Garissa for technical leads, managers and partners.
• Support sector teams and METAL in defining learning questions that guide documentation and KML product development.
• Conduct a desk review of METAL data, reports and program documents to inform product design.
• Lead field visits to Turkana, Garissa and Tana River to gather primary data (FGDs, KIIs, observations, photography, videography) following consent and safeguarding protocols.
• Guide the drafting of KML outputs such as success stories, technical briefs, policy briefs, impact booklets, blogs, short videos and after‑action reviews.
• Facilitate a post‑write‑shop consolidation workshop to quality‑check and refine drafts against learning questions and evidence.
• Provide editorial, copy‑editing, design/layout, and Data Protection Act compliance support to produce publication‑ready materials.
• Assist IRC Kenya in disseminating KML products through appropriate media and channels.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s preferred) in Communications, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Monitoring & Evaluation, Journalism or a related field.
• 5–7 years demonstrated experience in knowledge management, impact documentation, technical/report writing or communications within humanitarian or development organisations.
• Proven track record of delivering high‑quality knowledge products.
