Mercury Consultant – planetGOLD & Enabling Activities

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks a Mercury Consultant to support the planetGOLD programme and Minamata Convention Enabling Activities. This six‑month, home‑based consultancy will focus on GEF‑9 concept development, project supervision, and technical assistance across the Chemicals and Waste portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and submit GEF‑9 concepts and project packages on schedule.
• Supervise, report on, and support the closure of assigned projects.
• Provide responsive technical assistance to the mercury portfolio, including planetGOLD and Minamata Convention activities.
• Coordinate with countries, executing agencies, technical experts, and stakeholders to ensure timely implementation.

Required profile

• Specialist knowledge of Global Environment Facility (GEF) project development and supervision.
• Experience with mercury‑related programming and the Minamata Convention.
• Proven ability to coordinate multi‑stakeholder projects and manage tasks effectively.

Required skills

• Experience drafting and managing GEF proposals.
• Strong task‑management and coordination skills with executing agencies.
