Mess Attendant

About the role

The Mess Attendant will ensure dining areas on Diego Garcia are clean, well‑organized, and ready for patrons. This position supports a U.S. Navy program by maintaining a pleasant and efficient dining environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare dining areas promptly, arranging tables, chairs, and equipment for service.
• Maintain table settings, ensuring tablecloths are clean, wrinkle‑free, and uniform in appearance.
• Restock and clean all table containers, condiment holders, and related supplies.
• Monitor equipment condition, report any damage or malfunction, and assist with repairs or replacements.
• Keep the overall dining space organized, welcoming, and compliant with sanitation standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in food service, custodial, hospitality, or a related field.
• Knowledge of basic cleaning methods and ability to follow sanitation and presentation standards.
• Strong organizational attention to detail and effective communication skills.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements, obtain necessary facility credentials, and maintain a valid passport (minimum one‑year validity).
