About the role

The Shining Hope For Communities (SHOFCO) Mathare School for Girls is seeking a dedicated Music Teacher to create a flexible elementary music program and a supportive classroom environment. The role focuses on nurturing talent, fostering personal growth, and developing future community‑centred female leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Teach music theory, vocal and instrumental skills to elementary students.
• Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and varied teaching strategies.
• Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
• Maintain classroom discipline and a positive learning atmosphere.
• Assess and record students’ academic and social progress; prepare progress reports.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding student development.
• Coordinate with other staff to address health, attitude, and learning challenges.
• Manage classroom resources, inventory, and requisition of instructional aids.
• Supervise out‑of‑classroom activities and administer standardized tests.
• Participate in curriculum development, faculty committees, and student activity sponsorship.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Music Education (or a P1 certificate with a passion for teaching music).
• Registration with the Teachers Service Commission.
• Entry‑level position; willingness to grow within the role.
• Knowledge of community‑based education and creative arts is an advantage.
