People Operations Lead

About the role

Turaco is looking for a People Operations Lead to own the day‑to‑day HR engine across its African markets. You will manage recruiting, payroll, contracting and the full employee lifecycle while leading a small team of People Operations Associates.

Key responsibilities

• Run end‑to‑end recruitment for short‑term staff and Customer Operations Associate roles, including sourcing, screening, interviews and offers.
• Maintain the applicant tracking system and provide hiring managers with pipeline visibility.
• Prepare monthly payroll for assigned markets, coordinate with Finance and external payroll providers, and ensure compliance with local statutory and tax rules.
• Handle all contracting activities: offer letters, renewals, role‑change paperwork, work permits and visas for cross‑border hires.
• Lead onboarding and off‑boarding processes, track leave utilization and flag anomalies.
• Directly manage People Operations Associates, assign work, review quality and unblock daily issues.
• Coordinate performance review cycles and support culture and engagement initiatives.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of generalist HR or People Operations experience, preferably in a multi‑country or fast‑growth environment.
• Experience supervising at least one direct report or clear readiness to do so.
• Comfortable working in ambiguous, hands‑on execution roles rather than policy design.

Required skills

• Proficiency with HRIS/ATS platforms such as Breezy, BambooHR or SeamlessHR.
