Reliever Optometrist

About the role

Baus Optical Company Limited, an optical retailer with 42 outlets in Kenya, is hiring a full-time, on-site Reliever Optometrist. The position is based in Nairobi County and Kilifi, Kenya, and combines clinical eye care with patient education and community outreach.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye examinations and diagnose vision-related issues.
• Provide corrective solutions, such as prescriptions for eyeglasses or contact lenses.
• Educate patients on eye health and on the options available.
• Collaborate with the retail team to ensure a high-quality customer experience.
• Conduct follow-up appointments.
• Take part in community outreach, including mobile clinics and free consultations.

Required profile

• Diploma in Optometry or a Bachelor's degree in Optometry or an equivalent field, with a valid practicing license recognized in Kenya.
• Experience in community outreach programmes such as mobile clinics or CSR initiatives is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in eye examinations, diagnosis of visual impairments and recommendation of corrective measures.
• Knowledge of dispensing optical products, including lenses, frames and specialty eyewear adaptations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient education and teamwork.
• Commitment to professional ethics and a high standard of care.
