Scientist – Gender, Social Inclusion & Development

About the role

WorldFish is seeking a Scientist to lead strategic research on gender equality, social inclusion and pro‑poor value chains in aquatic food systems. The role focuses on generating evidence, publishing findings and designing gender‑transformative solutions that improve livelihoods and resilience across Africa, Asia and other regions.

Key responsibilities

• Co‑design and co‑lead interdisciplinary research projects on gender‑inclusive fisheries and aquaculture value chains.
• Produce high‑quality publications, policy briefs and technical reports for CGIAR SAAF, the Gender Accelerator, DéSIRA+ and i‑FLiCAR projects.
• Analyse how gender norms and power relations affect access to resources, technologies, markets and climate‑adaptation options.
• Develop and test gender‑transformative interventions that enhance women's empowerment, youth engagement and social inclusion.
• Collaborate with internal scientists, external partners and stakeholders to ensure research relevance and impact.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in gender studies, development economics, social sciences, agriculture or related field.
• Demonstrated experience conducting gender and social‑inclusion research in fisheries, aquaculture or related sectors.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications and evidence‑based policy contributions.
• Ability to work across multicultural teams and engage with partners in Africa and Asia.
